In a program chaired by the Department Head Prof. Dr. Jib Lal Sapkota on Friday, the CDE family also bid farewell to Ram Sharan Yadav, who served the Department as its accounts officer for decades. Professors Dr. Arun Gupto, Dr. Anirudra Thapa, Dr. Dhruva Karki, Dr. Sharad Chandra Thakur and Dr. Anju Gupto, and Accounts Officer Dhruva Raj Neupane recalled the contributions of the outgoing professors and account officer, and commended them for grooming a generation of responsible and intellectually sound faculties and honest employees. They also narrated memorable episodes from their professional association as colleagues.
Recalling his association with the retiring colleagues, Prof. Dr. Arun Gupto said they had made remarkable contributions towards building and maintaining the academic legacy of the Department. Prof. Dr. Aniruddha Thapa recalled how the seniors groomed their colleagues and juniors and helped them evolve academically and professionally. Prof. Dr. Dhruva Karki recalled the contributions professors had made towards the academic development of the University from every position they held, and retired gracefully with nothing but a positive impression all around.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Dr. Krishna Chandra Sharma said, his attachment with TU at different capacities, including his two terms as the Head of the Department of English had been extremely enlightening. He said the Department never maintained a hierarchy among faculties of different designations, and worked hard to safeguard its glory. He further said it was important for people in leadership to be formal, and to face challenges instead of running away from them. Another retiring faculty, Prof. Dr. Ram Chandra Poudel said his experience as a professor and as a dean had both been enlightening, and he would continue to associate himself with the programs of the Department as and when required.
Addressing the event, chairperson and Head of the Department, Prof. Dr. Jib Lal Sapkota felicitated the retiring professors for their tireless work and guidance. He lauded them for their contributions at various avenues including teaching, syllabus making, research work and publications. He also recalled Ram Sharan Yadav’s contribution to the department through at least three decades, and highlighted his professional honesty and diligence. He wished the retiring professors and Mr. Yadav happy and productive retired lives. Furthermore, he revealed that TU authorities were positive about allowing graduates from any discipline to apply for the MA English program, on the condition that they had studied English as a 100 mark, or a 3 credit paper. He also said the Department had started teaching some non-credit professional courses like Translation Studies for interested students.
The retiring professors and accountant were honored with letters of appreciation and ceremonial shawls. Festival wishes were also shared alongside the event organized at the Central Department of English.
